Visit to our cooperation partners

As a migration specialist at Deutsche Aidshilfe (DAH), I visited two important cooperation partners in Berlin: The "Afrikaherz" project and Schwulenberatung Berlin, which runs a shelter for queer refugees. As part of our collaboration, it is important for me to get to know the work of our partners.

As HIV prevention organizations, both projects play a key role in working with people with migration biographies. Both visits were worthwhile in order to strengthen networking and create transparency in the joint work. The work of the cooperation partners is highly valued.

Better access to HIV testing and counseling

The visit to the "Afrikaherz " project took place on 26.11.2021. "Afrikaherz" focuses on prevention work for and with Africans. The current aim is to create an opportunity to have rapid HIV tests carried out at their advice center. It is particularly important to establish these tests as low-threshold as possible. People without health insurance or with unresolved residence status also receive support there. More information on "Afrikaherz" is available from the Association for Intercultural Work Berlin/Brandenburg e.V. (VIA): via-in-berlin.de/projekt/afrikaherz.

Support for queer refugees

The visit to Schwulenberatung Berlin gGmbH (accommodation for queer refugees) took place on 1.12.2021 - World AIDS Day. The services offered by Schwulenberatung Berlin can be found at three locations in Berlin. In Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and Neukölln, men can find support, advice and a sympathetic ear for their life situation. The cooperation has been successful and both partners are interested in working innovatively. More information can be found at schwulenberatungberlin.de.

I am looking forward to networking with such warm-hearted and committed people for the work of DAH.
