AfroLebenPlus

Is my virus different?

AfroLebenPlus was founded in 2001 and is a nationwide association of HIV-positive migrants, which is financially and structurally supported by Deutsche AIDS-Hilfe e.V. (DAH).

The 22 members of the AfroLebenPlus network mainly come from sub-Saharan African countries, speak different languages and are active as HIV multipliers at various locations in Germany. They are well integrated into their local communities, carry out preventative and political work and are committed to improving the living conditions of HIV-positive migrants. This includes not only educational work in relation to taboo topics such as HIV, but also the fight against racism and multiple stigmatization of migrants in Germany.

The regional meetings of the network women and men serve to exchange experiences and ideas, to strengthen each other and to network AfroLebenPlus nationwide. There is also the opportunity to work together with Deutsche AIDS-Hilfe e.V. To develop information media and other HIV prevention services for migrants. For example, important methods and media are being developed that are specifically aimed at working with migrant communities. AfroLebenPlus is also actively involved in the preparation and implementation of the nationwide meeting of HIV-positive migrants.

The AfroLebenPlusmobile educational theater group performs at street festivals or cultural events, for example, and provides information about HIV/AIDS with its creative, annually updated performances. In this way, the eight women and men involved want to help remove the taboos surrounding HIV infection and destigmatize HIV-positive people. The theater group can be booked for various events in any city for a small fee.
