The nationwide meeting of HIV-positive migrants
We cordially invite all HIV-positive migrants living in Germany and their children to the nationwide meeting of HIV-positive migrants!
The meeting, which was conceived and implemented by Deutsche AIDS-Hilfe in cooperation with the AfroLebenPlus network , makes a significant contribution to the development of self-help structures and the empowerment of these communities. It not only provides participants with orientation in the German health and social system, but also offers a framework for dealing with coping with illness. In addition, strategies are developed for dealing with the stigma and taboo surrounding HIV in their own communities. This is an essential prerequisite for taking responsibility for oneself and others as an HIV-positive person. Due to the participatory implementation, it is possible to design the event in a migration-friendly way and in many languages, e.g. in German, English, French or Amharic.
There is also a unique opportunity for the children of HIV-positive migrants to attend workshops that address their specific needs, fears or feelings.
In addition to the numerous participants from sub-Saharan Africa, the meeting is also increasingly attended by people from other countries, e.g. Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Russia and Ukraine. This positive development is to be further promoted in the future in order to include the various migrant groups, for whom there was previously no offer and who are often unable to "come out" due to their isolation in their communities of origin.
The following topics are currently being addressed at the meeting:
- Living with HIV
- new findings in antiretroviral therapy, "therapy as protection", safer sex
- The desire to have children and pregnancy
- the legal and social situation of migrants with HIV/AIDS, residence, asylum and EU law, social law, social benefits
- Religion, images of men and women in different cultures
- Criminalization, multiple stigmatization and discrimination and how to deal with them
- Migration, HIV and old age
Interactive art workshops for adults and children are also offered.
