PaKoMi - Participation and cooperation in HIV prevention with migrants

How can strategies and measures for HIV prevention be developed, implemented and researched together with migrants? This is the basic question of PaKoMi.

The project of Deutsche AIDS-Hilfe was scientifically supported by the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB) from 2008-2011.

It comprises the following components:

  • Quantitative survey of DAH member organizations on HIV prevention services for and with migrants
  • Case studies on the cooperative and participatory development of HIV prevention for and with migrants in four cities (Berlin, Hamburg, Dortmund, Osnabrück)
  • Further training workshops on capacity building
  • Participatory evaluation and utilization of the results

PaKoMi is a participatory research project, which means that practitioners, academics and community partners are equally involved in all phases of the research process. The research project is thus in the tradition of participatory research approaches, which are internationally referred to as "Community-Based Participatory Research" (CBPR).
