PaSuMi

Model project: "Diversity-oriented and participatory development of addiction prevention and addiction support for and with migrants"
PaSuMi stands for Participation, Addiction Prevention and Migration. PaSuMi is a nationwide model project (2017-2019) of Deutsche AIDS-Hilfe. It is carried out in cooperation with eight facilities for indicated and selective addiction prevention and is implemented in close collaboration with peers from various target groups.
PaSuMi peers are people from or related to the following groups: Russian-speaking people (some of them activists) who use or have used drugs, sex workers (trans, male, female) from Eastern Europe and Africa in precarious situations and refugees.
Our aim
Low-threshold addiction prevention measures are better adapted to the needs and living environment of migrants who use drugs or are at risk of addiction.
- New approaches for selective and indicated addiction prevention measures are jointly developed, tested and evaluated
- Employees in the facilities work in a diversity-oriented manner
- Gaining knowledge through good and bad practice: Identification of nationwide applicable and practical recommendations for action
Methods
- Participation: Migrants (peers) are involved throughout the project with decision-making power
- Cross-site training and evaluation workshops for practitioners and peers
- Scientific support: technical and methodological support, project visits, process evaluation, documentation and analysis
- Quality assurance by an independent advisory board (representatives from the community, practice, science and politics)
PaSuMi is funded by the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) and coordinated and scientifically supported by Deutsche AIDS-Hilfe e.V. (German AIDS Service Organization). After PaKoMi, PaSuMi is another project in the tradition of participatory research and practice, which is internationally referred to as "Community-Based Participatory Research" (CBPR) or Action Research.
